LESOTHO MEN’S CRICKET TEAM DEPARTS FOR ESWATINI TRI-NATIONS SERIES

By Dr. Clifford Molefe

MASERU, 31 May 2026 – The Lesotho Cricket Association (LCA) officially sent off the Senior Men’s National Cricket Team to the Eswatini Tri-Nations Series during a ceremony held at the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) headquarters on Saturday.

The regional tournament, scheduled to take place from 1 to 8 June 2026 in Eswatini, will feature three participating nations: Lesotho, hosts Eswatini and Mozambique. The competition presents another important opportunity for Lesotho’s cricketers to gain international experience while showcasing the continued growth of the sport in the Mountain Kingdom.

Addressing players, officials and members of the media during the send-off ceremony, LCA President Vijay expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent the country with distinction. He commended both the players and the technical team for their dedication throughout the preparation period.

According to Vijay, the squad successfully completed two intensive training camps designed to improve fitness levels, sharpen cricketing skills and strengthen team cohesion ahead of the tournament.”The commitment shown by the players and coaching staff during the preparations has been commendable. We believe the work invested over the past weeks has laid a solid foundation for the team to perform competitively at the tournament,” said Vijay.

He emphasized that the Eswatini tour carries significance beyond the results on the field, noting that every international appearance contributes to the development and visibility of cricket in Lesotho.”This tournament is more than just a competition. It provides an opportunity for our players to gain valuable international exposure and for Lesotho to demonstrate the progress that cricket continues to make in the country. We want the team to compete with confidence, discipline and pride as ambassadors of our nation,” he added.

Head Coach Alex Mavhiko echoed the President’s sentiments and expressed satisfaction with the team’s level of preparedness ahead of departure. Mavhiko said the players had responded positively throughout the training programme and were eager to test themselves against quality opposition from Eswatini and Mozambique. “The preparations have gone well and we are confident that the players are ready for the challenge ahead. The training camps allowed us to focus on both physical conditioning and technical aspects of the game. Most importantly, the players have shown tremendous commitment and a strong desire to represent Lesotho with pride,” said Mavhiko. He added that the technical team had worked hard to ensure that the players were mentally prepared for the demands of international cricket and believed the squad possessed the character required to compete effectively throughout the tournament.

The Eswatini Tri-Nations Series forms part of the Lesotho Cricket Association’s broader strategy of exposing local players to higher levels of competition as the country continues to strengthen its cricket structures and improve performance on the regional stage.

The Association also used the occasion to acknowledge the support received from the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission, partners, supporters and various stakeholders whose contributions have played a crucial role in making the tour possible.

As the team embarks on its regional assignment, expectations are high that the players will not only compete strongly but also gain valuable experience that will contribute to the future growth of cricket in Lesotho.

The entire cricket fraternity joins the nation in wishing the Senior Men’s National Team a safe journey and a successful campaign in Eswatini.
